Rest in Peace Skyler Sue

On Sunday, May 13th we made the heartbreaking decision to let Skyler pass away. It’s been a little over 12 hours now since she passed and so far the pain has been excruciating. Even though it hurts to be at home without her, we know we made the right decision.

Skyler Needs Your Prayers

The last 12+ hours have been difficult for all of us.

Shortly after 6PM on Saturday, Skyler’s apnea monitor started alarming and her skin was turning blue. Mom started screaming but was still able to give Skyler chest compressions before we rushed to the ER. Once we got to the hospital Skyler was still blue and felt lifeless. Her heart stopped beating for at least 10 minutes and at that point she was considered to be clinically dead. Mom begged the Doctors & Nurses that were huddled around her to do something to bring her back…and miraculously they did.

Happy 3rd Month Skyler!

Skyler is now three months old! With all the things we went through since Skyler was born, it’s hard to believe it was only three months. But at the same time, it seems like Skyler is growing fast right before our very eyes.  Her feed is now at 23 ml/hr and three days ago she weighed at 8 lbs and 2 oz.

The Special Mother by Erma Bombeck

We would like to share this inspirational writing by Erma Bombeck called “The Special Mother“. If we were to change anything, we will change the “mother” to “family“. But below is a great way to explain why we were chosen to be Skyler’s family, we are not perfect but we are happy to be chosen. We truly believe our little angel deserves the best family to love and raise her, so it’s no wonder why God has chosen us.

Saturday, Skyler had a visit from her therapist for a physical evaluation. The therapist was so impressed with Skyler and how she can hold her head up. Skyler also showed signs that she can focus and follow sounds from a toy’s rattle. Mom learned a lot from the therapist and what she can do to further stimulate Skyler. In the following week, Skyler will meet the rest of her therapists – Physical, Occupational and Speech. We’re just happy that the therapists can come to our home and give her 1-on-1 private sessions.

Busy Week For Skyler (UPDATE: 4/19)

Skyler has a busy week this week. Today we’re all headed to Tulsa for a follow up appointment with the surgeon that performed her G-tube & fundoplication surgery. It will be the longest car ride Skyler’s taken since her trip home from Tulsa. We’re confident that she’ll do just fine and hopeful that the surgeon will be encouraged by her progress. The scar on her stomach is barely noticeable anymore and by now the G-tube should be set in place.
