Busy Week For Skyler (UPDATE: 4/19)
Skyler has a busy week this week. Today we’re all headed to Tulsa for a follow up appointment with the surgeon that performed her G-tube & fundoplication surgery. It will be the longest car ride Skyler’s taken since her trip home from Tulsa. We’re confident that she’ll do just fine and hopeful that the surgeon will be encouraged by her progress. The scar on her stomach is barely noticeable anymore and by now the G-tube should be set in place.
Then on Wednesday, we have an appointment with Skyler’s Neonatologist from her first NICU, but it’s much closer to home. We’re hoping that her neonatologist will decide to increase her feeding intake so that she can continue gaining weight. We’re also getting low on some of her medication so the timing for this appointment is perfect. Other than that we’re not really sure what to expect from this visit.
All in all it’s been a good week & relaxing weekend. Dad started his new job on the night shift, which allows him to stay at home with Skyler during the day & Mom stays with her during the night, so one of us is always with her. She’s been doing great with her feedings, digesting her food, sleeping well, not fussing much at all and we’ve even noticed that she’s become a little more vocal over the past week or so. Also, her Grandma bought her a mobile that Skyler really seems to enjoy…she will stare at for long periods of time and fall asleep quickly if she’s tired from hearing the music it plays. There’s a video above that shows off this new toy.
UPDATE: Skyler’s appointments went well…she weighs over 7 lbs now and her surgeon in Tulsa was so encouraged by her progress that he scheduled her to go back in 1 month to have her Mic-key button put in as a replacement for her G-tube. This will make it easier on her & us for when it’s time to feed her or give her medication. Her feedings have also been increased from 19ml/hr to 20ml/hr and will continue to go up over the next few days until she’s at 22ml/hr, then we’ll see how she’s tolerating the increase before seeing the neonatologist again.
