Today was a great day because Skyler is finally home. We weren’t expecting this to happen yet since the plan has always been to transfer her to the hospital closer to us and then bring her home a few days later. But she’s been stable for quite some time, has done a great job with the feeding increases (up to 19ml/hr now), there have been no problems with her G-tube and overall she’s as ready as she’ll ever be.
At first we were both a little worried that the process was being rushed since we just found out yesterday that she might come home. But after some training on how to use her feeding pump & apnea monitor, plus the CPR course we took a week ago, we realized we’re just as ready as Skyler. Now we’re just thrilled to have her home, sleeping in her crib.
So far it’s been a very smooth transition from the hospital she was staying at in Oklahoma to her home in Arkansas. It’s about a 2 & 1/2 hour trip and she had no problems whatsoever during the drive. She slept for about half the trip and curiously looked out the window for the other half (and there is a nice slideshow of pictures above that shows some of the trip). She’s been home in her crib for the past 6 hours and has done an amazing job with all the activity…now she’s exhausted and sleeping very well.
It only took 51 days (split between 2 different hospitals) since her birth to get her home, but now that she’s finally here it was definitely worth the wait.
We’d like to say a very sincere Thank You to both hospitals that Skyler has called her home for the past 7+ weeks. Thank you for taking care of our daughter and being so kind, caring, generous & helpful when we needed it the most. We’d also like to thank the very kind Pharmacist from Jepson Pharmacy that filled her prescription today when we had no other alternative.
Now we’ll just look forward to our lives together as a family and hope for the best.
